As Christians we should look at things differently than those in the world. Especially when it comes to voting.
A great man of God said something once that I will never forget. He said, what we give our approval to, permission for, or vote for, we actually allow into our own homes and families. It’s like purposely opening up the roof of your home and allowing whatever is out there to be dumped right in!
Sadly, not only do most people not understand that, but they begin to compromise their beliefs and convictions when the pressure is on to conform. God tells us: “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and new attitude]…” (Romans 12:2) And we renew our minds with the Word of God. When we do we begin to grow in God. We take on His heart, His convictions, His very nature.
Our beliefs and convictions are important. It’s what makes us who we are. It’s the stuff we are “made of”. That’s why it’s so important to be careful who we align ourselves with. Who we hang around. Influence is powerful. God tells us clearly: “bad company corrupts good character.” Yet, many still try to go around that.
In fact, compromise is the genesis, or beginnings of deception! Compromise will dull your edge and eventually erode your beliefs and convictions. And what causes compromise? Pride. It sounds something like this: “It’s OK. I know God tells us not to do that, but it won’t effect me. And besides, God accepts me just the way I am.” Yes, He does. But He also expects us to obey Him and His Word. He also expects us, like any good parent, to grow up. There are many blessings for obedience. And outside of His covering we open ourselves to harm. His guidelines and principles are there to protect us, not to harm us or to take away our fun.
We are entering an important time in our American history. Voting for our President!
For me, this is a tremendous privilege. When we vote for something we are setting our agreement for that thing to be produced or to be “allowed”. And YOU CAN’T CHANGE WHAT YOU ALLOW. So if you vote for someone, for instance, who believes in, and will vote for something that God very clearly says in His Word is wrong, then you’ve simply said, “Yes” and allowed that into your family. You’ve said that you AGREE. An agreement is a form of covenant. A contract in a sense. And it is BINDING. So once you have entered into a contract or agreement, you actually bind yourself to that agreement.
That’s why it is so important to agree with what GOD says in His Word. I would much rather agree with God and bind myself to His Word rather than bind myself to the circumstances or to my “feelings” (which can change at every whim). Ask yourself, what does GOD want? I belong to Him. I’ve given my life to Him. What does HE want for this country. Obviously, He will never go against His own Word. And He wants our country to flourish and to be flowing in His blessings. Will we obey Him and be blessed or will we follow our own will.
Perhaps you think I am being too harsh. But I think not. “God will not be mocked. What a man sows, that also shall he reap.” God tells us in His Word that if we sow to the flesh we will reap death. But if we sow to the spirit we will reap life.
If you’ve compromised or have made mistakes in this area, simply repent. God tells us that when we repent He is “faithful to forgive AND cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. We then are right before Him again.
Think about it: we have a tendency to think the problems are all “out there”. BUT God tells us that all things of life come from our inner man. Our spirit man. We may look at someone and say, I hope he/she will make right decisions when they take office. The question is, what is in their hearts? What makes them tick? As Christians, we must ask ourselves, “Do they stand for the principles of God? Do they compromise their convictions in a tough situation or when challenged? Do they stick to their beliefs? Does their life honor God and His principles?”
God tells us that “when the righteous rule, the people rejoice.” I like that. And I’ve seen it play out, not only in our cities, towns, states and country (at times), but also in families who run their families in righteous living.
God has given us so much to be thankful for in this country! So let’s “hold fast to that which we have.” (Revelation 3:11) Let’s fight to keep America strong! Refuse to compromise the Word of God.
And let’s keep it simple this voting season and vote for the candidates who have strong moral fiber and can carry this country into the future with Godly values. Someone who will fight for American values and most importantly, God’s will and His values!!! Remember, “we are not our own. We’ve been bought with a price.”
